St. Bernard Parish Youth Respond with "Hope 4 Japan"

Students to sell buttons to raise funds to help earthquake/tsunami victims

Next Generation and Fuel are partnering together to allow students in St.
Bernard Parish to take initiative to raise money to help the
earthquake/tsunami victims in Japan. Spurring from conversations with
students from Next Generation lunch clubs at Chalmette High School, St.
Bernard Middle School and C.F. Rowley, students will be selling buttons to
raise donations for the cause. N.P. Trist and Andrew Jackson Middle School
students have also joined the efforts to raise money. The buttons will be
donated by Next Generation and Fuel so that all proceeds can go to benefit
Japan. Students will be selling large buttons for $5 and small buttons for
$2. All button proceeds and donations will be sent to a 501c3
organization, Team Expansion, who has workers on the ground in Sendai, Japan
providing aid. We are declaring Friday, April 15th, "Hope 4 Japan" day and
are encouraging everyone that purchased buttons to wear their button proudly
on that day to show our support for Japan.

Last week, students at St. Bernard Middle School shared glimpses of their
own experiences and those of their friends and families after Hurricane
Katrina to show how they understood some of what the Japanese disaster
victims might be experiencing. The students are excited to sell the buttons
to have a way to help others as they remember how much they were helped by
people around the world after Katrina. Each Next Generation Club has a goal
number of buttons to sell and upon meeting their goals, will have a party
celebrating "Hope 4 Japan" and their efforts to raise money to help.

Buttons will also be on sale at PJ's Coffee, Curves, Smoothie King,
Plantation Grill, Munchies and other local businesses for the public to
purchase. Any questions can be directed to Melanie Ford at Next Generation,
885-0980 or Abbey Flaherty at Fuel, 224-1653.
