Man caught inside Chalmette church with illegal pills

CHALMETTE, La. - A man was caught by a deputy inside a St. Bernard church
while sorting through a pile of illegal prescription pills.

Tuesday evening, a witness called the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office after
seeing a man inside a Chalmette church in the 1600 block of Judge Perez
Drive.  The man was seen through a widow in the children's area of the
church taking and also separating the pills into a pile, said a statement
from the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.

A deputy responded to the call to the church, finding Taylor Beatmann, 25,
of Chalmette, with several piles of pills on a desk, said the sheriff's
office.

After the deputy advised Beatmann of his rights, he asked him if he had
prescriptions for the pills. Beatmann told the deputy he did not.

The deputy recovered about 60 tablets of the drugs Xanax, Oxycodone, Codeine
and Soma -- a combined street value of more than $400, according to the
sheriff's office.

Beatmann attends the church where he was arrested, said the sheriff's
office, adding, there wasn't any information on why he brought the pills
into the building.

Beatmann was booked into St. Bernard Parish Prison and is being held in lieu
of$25,000 bond.
