Week 3 of St. Bernard Parish Library Summer Reading Program

If you've worked up an appetite for some tasty summer reading, then the St.
Bernard Parish Library is the place to be. Week 3 of the One World, Many
Stories Summer Reading Program will bring delicious reading treats to
readers when they attend the Local Cuisine summer story sessions on Tuesday,
June 14th at either 1 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. or on Wednesday, June 15th at 11:30
a.m. Gumbo, tomatoes and maybe even some sweet potato pie are just some of
the local favorites on the menu as listeners enjoy fun morsels of stories,
poems and songs during the 45-minute program. Readers are sure to enjoy a
local take on Eric Carle's Very Hungry Caterpillar. Take home activity
sheets will also be given.

And for dessert on Friday, June 17th, library friends of all ages are
invited to enjoy a visit by local author and storyteller Dianne de Las
Casas. Starting at 3 p.m. audience members will become world explorers as
she takes them on treks to foreign lands as she shares stories from her
book, Handmade Tales. Cut and tell, string stories and more are all part of
this adventuresome 45-minute program. This free event is funded by a grant
from the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs and the Louisiana
Division of the Arts.

Summer readers are encouraged to continue working on the Super Summer Reader
Activity sheets. Beginning June 16th completed pages can be brought to the
library and readers will receive a certificate of completion as well as
coupons from McDonalds. Pre-readers thru 12th graders who complete their
activity sheets by July 7th will also be included in the grand finale prize
drawing held on July 8th. Younger readers are reminded that they must be
present to win. Prize sponsors to date are: Audubon Zoo, Chalmette Movies,
J & M Jewelers, Kiwanis of Arabi-St. Bernard, Louisiana Children's Museum,
McDonalds, National World War II Museum, New Orleans Paddlewheels, Pets
Plus, and Tony's Po-Boy Restaurant. Adult readers have until Saturday, July
23rd to complete their activity sheets. The adult prize drawing will be
held on Monday, July 25th and winners will be notified by phone.

All children's programming is being held at the library's new location, 2600
Palmisano Blvd. in Chalmette. All other library services will continue to
