Park Seeks Comments On Chalmette Battlefield Management Plan

Park Superintendent Carol A. Clark announced today that Jean Lafitte
National Historical Park and Preserve will host a public open house to
discuss the Chalmette Battlefield Unit General Management Plan
Amendment/Development Concept Plan/Environmental Assessment (GMPA/DCP/EA).
The open house is set for Thursday, June 30, 3:00-7:00 p.m., at the
Chalmette Battlefield Visitor Center, 8606 West St. Bernard Highway in
Chalmette. More information is available at 504-589-3882.

The public is invited to the open house, which will provide opportunities to
learn more about the

GMPA/DCP/EA, ask questions, and interact with the National Park Service
project team. The GMPA/DCP/EA establishes fundamental goals and objectives
for the park, including protecting and preserving natural and cultural
resources, providing visitor services, and achieving desired visitor
experiences.

A 30-day comment period will begin on June 30, 2011, to solicit public
comments on the GMPA/DCP/EA. During this period, the public is invited to
comment on the proposed plan. The public may review and comment on the
GMPA/DCP/EA:

. Via the National Park Service website: A copy of the GMPA/DCP/EA is
available for public review at the National Park Service's Planning,
Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website at
http://parkplanning.nps.gov. Comments may be submitted at the PEPC website.

. Via mail: Copies of the GMPA/DCP/EA may be obtained by writing Carol
A. Clark, Superintendent, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and
Preserve, 419 Decatur Street, New Orleans LA 70130-1035. Written comments
may be submitted to the same address.

All comments are due by July 30, 2011. It is National Park Service practice
to make all comments, including names and addresses of respondents who
provide that information, available for public review. Individuals may
request that the National Park Service withhold their name and/or address
from public disclosure. To do this, commenters using the website should
check the box "keep my contact information private." Commenters submitting
written comments should include a privacy request at the beginning of their
comments. The National Park Service will honor such requests to the extent
allowable by law.
