Volunteers from Camp Hope help homeowners in Arabi and Violet

Volunteers from an alumni group from DeSales University in Center Valley,
Pennsylvania, stayed at Camp Hope in Arabi. While they were here, they were
able to help two St. Bernard Parish families with construction at their
homes as the residents try to rebuild from Hurricane Katrina. Mary and Lloyd
Toucheque bought a modular home on Cougar Drive in Arabi, but they planned
to do the finishing work themselves. However, because of severe and
unexpected illnesses, they were able to finish the home. Secondly, Vince and
Whitney Petric of Moss Lane in Violet bought their house and fixed it before
they got married. They found out 18 months later they had Chinese drywall
and have to repair the home with no money and no help from insurance. The
volunteers were able to complete the work for the Toucheques, and they were
able to nearly complete tearing out the drywall from the Petrics' house, the
first phase of the repairs for that home.

Volunteers who wish to stay at Camp Hope, which is operated as part of St.
Bernard Parish government with Denise Montalbano as its director, may
contact Montalbano for more information at 504-220-9214 or
dmontalbano at sbpg.net. Residents who may need help with rebuilding or other
issues also may contact Montalbano.
