[StBernard] Cut, Cap and Balance on Debt Limit

A number like $14.3 trillion is hard to comprehend. But let’s break it down -- if you were to split that number up among each American taxpayer – it’s $129,000, or approximately $46,000 per citizen. These frightening numbers are not made up - they show the reality of the debt our nation is in.

Even scarier, under the budget proposed by President Obama for 2012, the debt would almost double in 10 years. Yet the president and Sen. Harry Reid still want to increase the national debt limit without making significant spending cuts.

Well instead of allowing our nation’s fiscal situation to continue getting worse, there are some of us with a plan: cut, cap and balance. <http://cutcapbalancepledge.com/>

Spending cuts absolutely must happen. Everything is on the table.

We must demand enforceable statutory caps to return federal spending to 18% of gross domestic product, where it has been for most of the past 60 years. Federal spending is now nearly 25% of GDP, which is unsustainable.

And finally, we must insist on passage of a balanced budget amendment before that debt-limit vote occurs.

I am one of 12 U.S. Senators who have signed this pledge and will continue encouraging others to join in the fight to get us back on a path towards fiscal sanity.

You too, can sign the Cut, Cap and Balance Pledge. <http://cutcapbalancepledge.com>

Sincerely,

David
