St. Bernard Salutes America 27th Annual Celebration to be Sunday, July 3rd

Music by 5 Finger Discount, 1st Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest,

Dunking Booth, food and fireworks at Torres Park



The St. Bernard Salutes America 27th Annual Celebration at Torres Park and
the Community Playground on Sunday, July 3 will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at 8201
W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette behind the St. Bernard Parish Government
Complex.

There will be live music by 5 Finger Discount from 5:30 to 9 p.m., and the
first, annual Hot Dog Eating Contest open to the first 10 registrants and
sponsored by Stonewall's BBQ will be at 7 p.m. The celebration also will
include a dunking booth, balloons, snowballs, popcorn, and an array of food.
Children's activities will include an 18-foot dry slide with two lanes and
space walk donated by Insane Inflatables. Also the children will have two
rock walls for climbing, a trackless train for riding and much more.
Additionally, the St. Bernard Parish Fire Department will man its Smoke
House, a fire safety teaching activity. The event will end with the
traditional finale of fireworks. Admission is free. Those interested in
participating in the Hot Dog Eating Contest must pre- register by calling
Treasure Schwab at 504-224-0798 to receive registration forms.

Additionally, Mel Malone's State Farm office will be doing face painting,
and they will hold a fund raiser for the St. Bernard Animal Services
Department, which will have animals on site for adoption.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with the annual Patriotic Program sponsored
by the St. Bernard Business & Professional Women's Club, prior to the St.
Bernard Salutes America event. Citizens may bring a bell and join in ringing
the replica of the Liberty Bell that was presented as a USA Bicentennial
gift to the citizens of St. Bernard Parish, by the members of the Business &
Professional Women's Club.

Come support the vendors who will be offering a variety of hot food
including pulled pork, sausage on a stick, chicken and sausage gumbo, BBQ
chicken drumettes, shrimp pasta, BBQ brisket, jambalaya, ribs, corn grits,
hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos. There also will be other favorites including
cheesecake with praline sauce gourmet cupcakes, snowballs, cotton candy and
candy apples.
