St. Bernard Recreation Department to form Parent Advisory Board 

 

St. Bernard Recreation Department is forming a volunteer organization and
Parent Advisory Board to help keep St. Bernard's great facilities the best
around. 

 

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. said parental involvement
has been a cornerstone of the success achieved by the Recreation Department.
The board will formalize this involvement and will give parents and
grandparents a chance to volunteer at the facilities and to discuss their
ideas and opinions about current and potential recreational programs.

 

"The key to a successful recreation program is family involvement, and
that's what we hope the Parent Advisory Board will create," Taffaro said.

 

This will serve some of the same functions that the former booster clubs
provided. St. Bernard Parish Councilman Mike Ginart, Jr., whose father, the
late Mike Ginart, Sr., was a pioneer in the early days of the Recreation
Department, has been cultivating this concept during his tenure at District
D Councilman.
