School supplies given away to St. Bernard children at Violet Park No. 2 

Upwards of 1,800 sets of school supplies donated by individuals and a group
were given away to St. Bernard Parish children on Sunday, July 31, at Violet
Park No. 2 on East St. Bernard Highway in Violet. Back packs, writing
tablets, pencils and other items were available on a first-come,
first-served basis, said Russell Banks Sr. of Violet, organizer of the
event, along with the group Boss Nation. The give-away, held for the fourth
consecutive year just before the start of school, was open to any school-age
child who is a resident of St. Bernard Parish. "This is getting bigger each
year,'' Banks said.
