Community Center of St Bernard leader Iray Nabatoff named as a finalist for the 2011 AARP Hunger Hero award!

The Community Center of St Bernard is proud to announce that Executive Director Iray Nabatoff has been named as one of 5 finalists for the AARP's national 2011 Hunger Hero Award. This award recognizes the selfless work that people do on behalf of senior citizens in communities like St Bernard Parish and around the country. Iray's nomination recognizes the role that the Community Center's Mustard Seed Food Pantry and its Food for Seniors USDA Commodities Program play in providing food for more than 5,300 people in St Bernard Parish every single year.

The winner of the 2011 AARP Hunger Hero award will be determined by an online vote. Voting started on August 8 and will continue through midnight on September 24, with a limit of one vote per person per day at www.tinyurl.com/AARPhunger. Your vote matters, so please vote for Iray as often as you can during the voting period.

If Iray receives the most votes, he will be featured in the AARP Magazine and take a 2-day trip to Washington, DC where he’ll meet with AARP leaders. Finally, as the AARP Hunger Hero winner, Iray will receive $15,000 from the AARP Foundation for the Community Center of St Bernard which will be used to support essential programs like the food pantry, clothing bank, computer classes, financial literacy training, Medicaid enrollment and food stamps enrollment.
