St. Bernard Parish declares Labor Day as Remembrance Day

in a joint recognition of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

and the 6th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. and the St. Bernard
Parish Council issued a proclamation declaring Labor Day, September 5, 2011,
as "Remembrance Day" in a joint recognition to the 10th Anniversary of 9/11
and the 6th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. Twelve
parishes, the City of New Orleans, and the State of Louisiana have issued
the same proclamation.

The Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of the State of Louisiana will
hold a Remembrance Day free event that will be open to the public on Labor
Day, Sept. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Jerusalem Shrine Center, 1940 Ormond Blvd,
Destrehan, La.

The group is expecting a record number of people to attend this historical
event for Louisiana. The keynote address will be given by Lieutenant
Governor Jay Dardenne. Group leaders feel fortunate that they are expecting
to have three 9/11 first responders in attendance: one Boston Fire
Department firefighter who was assigned to search and rescue at 9/11 and two
New York Fire Department firefighters who were present at Ground Zero.

The group is expecting to have 12 parish presidents and state
Representatives Joseph P. Lopinto III and Gary L. Smith, Jr. join in this
remembrance of these two tragic events.

At the end of the program, there will be a concert given by the Jerusalem
Shrine Band. The band is made of professional musicians that play music from
the 1920's to 1980's. This is a onetime event for Louisiana and hopefully
will go down in the history books.
