NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 39-year-old Chalmette man has been charged with one
count of theft of government funds linked to Louisiana's Road Home program.

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says Ivan Keith Alfonso was charged Friday in a
bill of information.

The bill of information contends Alfonso owned rental property in Chalmette
in July 2005 that was not covered by flood insurance when Hurricane Katrina
hit on Aug. 29. Prosecutors say Alfonso fraudulently filed an application
with the Louisiana Road Home program declaring the Chalmette property was
his primary residence and he received about $123,000 for which he was not
entitled.

If convicted, Alfonso faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
