History Lecture Series Opens 10th Year at
Nunez Community College

Come join Nunez Community College in celebrating its 10th
year of its popular History Lecture Series.

The series 10th year opens Monday, September 12th with a
lecture on "The Bicentennial of Louisiana Statehood" presented by Ron
Chapman, Nunez professor of history, who has also been one of the most
frequent lecturers over the years.

"We hope you will come celebrate this milestone while
enjoying some excellent cultural entertainment," Dr. Curtis Manning said.
Manning, who founded the series, is an associate professor of history at
Nunez and is also the chair of the humanities department. "This season of
the History Lecture Series will feature some of our most popular speakers
from the past decade while we also plan to introduce some important new
topics."

Manning says he came up with the idea of a monthly history
lecture "to promote a cultural opportunity to explore the rich heritage of
the area and to take a small step in offering the St. Bernard area the
advantages of being a 'college town' with Nunez Community College at the
center."

The lectures are always free and open to the public and are
usually held on the first Monday of each month except in January. This
first lecture of the new season is on the second Monday because of the Labor
Day holiday, Manning said.

Chapman's lecture which begins at 7 p.m. in the Nunez
auditorium will focus on Louisiana's past 200 years and is one of the first
of many activities being held in advance to celebrate the April 30, 1812
anniversary of Louisiana statehood. Prior to the lecture a wine and cheese
reception begins at 6:30 p.m.
