Popular Speaker Returns to Nunez Lecture Series with Perspective on D-Day

World War II Historian Martin K. A. Morgan, addresses "Battlegrounds: A
Personal History of D-Day" on Monday, October 3rd during the next session of
the Nunez Community College History Lecture Series.

Martin, who served for years as the Historian in Residence at the National
D-Day Museum, is in the history doctoral program at the University of
Southern Mississippi.

"Marty Morgan was one of our most popular lecturers in the early years of
the Lecture Series," Dr. Curtis Manning, Nunez associate professor of
history and creator of the series said, pointing out that the series is now
in its 10th year at the college. "Among his earlier topics were 'U-Boats in
the Gulf of Mexico, Historical Forts of St. Bernard, and D-Day.'"

Manning said that Morgan will discuss the experiences of a few average
Louisianans that participated in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.

"Told through the eyes of individuals in the midst of the action, this
account will be very different from the top-down account of generals and
presidents who were far from the actual battle," he said.

Morgan was an adjunct instructor at Nunez from 2000 to 2004 where he taught
U.S. History. He received his graduate and undergraduate degrees from the
University of Alabama at Birmingham.

He has published one book, "Down to Earth: the 507th Parachute Infantry
Regiment in Normandy", and several articles relating to the history of U.S.
Army operations during the Second World War.

Morgan has also appeared as an historian on several television programs
which aired on The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, The National
Geographic Channel, The Military Channel, PBS and network programming.

The lecture starts at 7 p.m. in the Nunez auditorium and is preceded by a
wine and cheese reception at 6:30 p.m. All lectures are free and open to
the general public.
