St. Bernard President Craig Taffaro asks for nominations of commercial
fishermen for a board of review for coastal restoration projects

Nomination meeting to be Nov. 22 in the Parish Council Chambers

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. is asking the commercial
fishing community to participate in the development of a board of review to
work with St. Bernard Fisheries Director Tony "Ricky" Melerine for technical
support and practical input on coastal restoration projects.

After the initial nomination meeting held two weeks ago did not produce many
nominations, Taffaro and Melerine consulted with parish council members and
decided to extend the opportunity for more involvement. The meeting for
commercial fishermen to give nominations will be Tuesday, November 22 at 7
p.m. in the St. Bernard Parish Council Chambers, 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive
in Chalmette.

At this meeting, Melerine, who is the parish Director of Economic
Development for Fisheries and Water Management, will explain the purpose and
function of the board, and he will accept nominations in writing that must
come from commercial fishermen present at the meeting.

A person can nominate himself or another person, but the nominee must be a
commercial fisherman. If they wish, they can nominate someone from each of
the seven fishing districts: Bayou Bienvenue, Violet, Caernarvon, Yscloskey,
Delacroix Island, Hopedale and Shell Beach. One board member for each
district will be elected at a later date and time that will be announced at
the Nov. 22 meeting.

This board will not take the place of the Coastal Zone Advisory Board, and
it has a different focus. For more information, call Melerine at
504-278-4223.
