St. Bernard gets $52 million in hazard mitigation funds

WWL.com Reporting
St. Bernard Parish has just been granted an additional $52 million in hazard
mitigation funds that will be able to be used for coastal restoration,
hurricane protection projects, a seafood processing plant, storm proofing of
pump stations, community service, assistance to fishermen and other recovery
related projects.

The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness
announced the funding allocation.

"The governor agreed that using local input is the best way to spend the
money, and the money should be given to the communities who were most
impacted by Hurricane Katrina that have shown accountability in using
disaster recovery funds to this point," said Parish President Craig Taffaro.
