Christmas Cash Back Program Saturday, December 17 at the Sigur Civic Center

Save local retail receipts from Nov. 17 to Dec. 17 to win cash and prizes at
the event

 

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. is holding his fourth
annual Christmas Cash Back program in which  RESIDENTS CAN WIN CASH AND
PRIZES for doing their shopping in St. Bernard. Shoppers should save all of
their retail receipts from local businesses from November 17 through
December 17.

 

The cash give-away event Taffaro holds in conjunction with the St. Bernard
Economic Development Foundation will be Saturday, December 17 from 9 to
11:30 a.m. at the Sigur Civic Center. Receipts will be tallied until 11
a.m., and drawings for cash and prizes will begin at that point. Taffaro
holds the program to boost holiday retail sales in St. Bernard, and the
event is planned to be the featured finale to the St. Bernard Chamber's
Chamber Shop St. Bernard program.

 

"It is important to promote local holiday shopping in St. Bernard to keep
our tax dollars home and to encourage our neighbors to shop with us in St.
Bernard," President Taffaro said. "The program is meant to help people think
about the importance of supporting local businesses, especially during this
holiday shopping season."

 

The St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation is contributing with a
sponsorship from Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr.  The goal is to
raffle several levels of Christmas Cash Back rewards.  Businesses that wish
to donate items in lieu of cash can do so, but the emphasis is on a cash
back reward program. Any businesses who wish to support this event may send
a check to St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation, 8201 W. Judge Perez
Drive, Chalmette, LA 70043.

 

The event is planned to be featured with the finale of the St. Bernard
Chamber of Commerce Shop St. Bernard program. Visit any one of the St.
Bernard Chamber of Commerce participating Shop St. Bernard Vendors.  Go to
www.stbernardchamber.org for a list of the participating St. Bernard
vendors. Each time you make a purchase you are entitled to receive a
"Shoportunity" playing card.  Additionally, you will receive play money in
increments of $1 Shoportunity money for every $10 purchased.  Example:  If
you have dinner in a restaurant and the bill before tax is $32, you would
receive $3 in Shoportunity cash and one playing card.


 

Each and every participating Vendor has a winning Shoportunity Playing Card.
Thus, it is not necessary to acquire one or more of each, but it obviously
increases your chances of winning.  Place your name and address on the rear
of each card and bring to the drawing.  Winners must be present on December
17.  Drawings will begin at 11 a.m. Participating vendors will be on hand
with shopping opportunities to collect more play money and "Shoportunity
Cards."

 

During the December 17 event, Shoportunity Cash will be used at a live
auction for prizes, including but not limited to lots of restaurant gift
certificates, an area rug, art, clothes, other gift certificates and more. 

 

The Grand Prize that will be drawn from Shoportunity Cards is a cruise for
two on Carnival Cruise Lines, departing New Orleans for a five-day cruise to
Mexico. Only one cruise will be given away.  At the finale, there will be
boxes for each participating retailer/restaurant. A winning ticket will be
selected from each vendor from which the grand prize, second and third
prizes will be drawn. Other prizes include a two-night stay at Harrah's
Casino Hotel including a buffet for two, dinner and a two-piece set of
luggage. Playing cards will be drawn for additional prizes from the
participating retailer boxes.
