Tree falls, kills St. Bernard resident

ST. BERNARD, La. - A St. Bernard man is dead after being struck by a large
piece of a tree he was trying to cut down in his backyard.

Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, Troy Braniff,40, was using a chainsaw to cut
down sections of a large tree when a piece toppled over and landed on his
chest.

Braniff's wife, along with firefighters and EMTs, administered CPR but
recieved no response.

It is speculated that the man did not hear the piece crack due to the loud
noise of the chainsaw.

The cause of death has not yet been determined pending autopsy results.
