St. Bernard ATV-theft suspect arrested

The St. Bernard Sheriff's Office has made one arrest in a rash of
all-terrain vehicle thefts. A warrant has been issued for a second suspect.

Jermard "Marty" Taylor, 32, was booked Wednesday night with one count of
burglary of a shed in Meraux where an ATV was stolen, Sheriff-elect James
Pohlmann said. Taylor also was booked with one count of theft of another
4-wheel vehicle in Meraux.

More than 15 of the vehicles, some worth as much as $10,000, have been
stolen in recent months in the Meraux area and in eastern St. Bernard
Parish. Sheriff's detectives have been told the stolen 4-wheelers are being
sold in other parishes, Pohlmann said.


The warrant was issued for 32-year-old Chaz A. Adams, 12970 McRaven Court in
New Orleans, according to the Sheriff's Office. The warrant alleges Adams
participated in the burglary and theft of the two all-terrain vehicles with
Taylor, Pohlmann said.

Taylor was spotted hiding in grass outside a residence the night after an
ATV was stolen nearby. He admitted he is part of a group that has stolen at
least five of the vehicles, Pohlmann said. The 4-wheelers are small enough
to be hidden in other vehicles and taken to other areas for sale, Pohlmann
said.
