CHALMETTE, La. - St. Bernard deputies say a Chalmette supermarket manager
schemed with a friend to rob the store Monday.

The incident happened at the Winn-Dixie store on Paris Road around 12:45
a.m. Sheriff-elect James Pohlmann said the store had closed for the night.

Pohlmann said the assistant manager and a younger friend of his confessed to
planning a robbery at the store. He said the assistant manager went as far
as letting his friend hit him with a gun to give validity to the fake
robbery.

Pohlmann said the assistant manager and the friend admitted the robbery took
place to steal a "substantial" amount of money from the store's safe.

The assistant manager, 54-year-old Bryant Walker, and the friend,
39-year-old Travis Nobles, were both booked with felony theft over $5,000.

Both are being held in St. Bernard Parish Prison in lieu of bond set at
$100,000 each.

Pohlmann said the stolen money hasn't been recovered.
