Sports Hall of Fame to induct Horseman for first time in group's history,
March 10

For the first time in the 17-year history of the parish's sports focused
non-profit organization, Dr. Bryan Frichter - President of the St. Bernard
Parish Sports Hall of Fame - proudly announces that Ricky Mocklin - native
of New Orleans and a 1974 graduate of Chalmette High - has produced a
35-year career of outstanding work as a Thoroughbred horse racing announcer
that has taken him throughout the United States as well as a jockey agent
with promotions in various forms of media from written guides as well as
television and radio programs.

The SHOF Induction ceremony with Gulf Coast Bank & Trust supporting the
event as the major corporate sponsor takes place on Saturday, March 10 at
the Fred Sigur Cultural Center in Chalmette when the doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Those wishing to attending can purchase a table for of 10 for the cost of
$400 or an individual ticket for $40.

In addition to the professional veteran Horseman to be honored that night
will be three Amateur Athletes of the Year who earned history-making
accomplishments at Chalmette High.

Andre Dorsey carved out a historical career as an Owl jumper in track and
field - setting a school record in the high jump at 6-11 as a senior by
winning the state Class 5A championship in that event. He also set a school
record in the triple jump.

Owl two-sport letter-winner Rhett Pritchard became a two-sport all-district
performer in football and baseball and setting a school-record tackles mark
as a sophomore.

Haley Smith has been selected as the Parish Sports Hall of Fame Female
Athlete of the Year as she won 17 letters in her five-years as a Lady Owl
and as a senior was named the state's best volleyball player, winning the
Miss La Volleyball title at the State Volleyball All-Star Game.

A long-time veteran coach and promoter of girls' athletics long-before the
Title IX national law was passed to make sure female athletes were given
equal treatment and opportunities as men, Alice Dornan has been selected as
the organization's Humanitarian Award for such accomplishments.

Finally, the newly-created award to acknowledge special accomplishments in
athletics and named in honor of the late Elphage Caillouette - a former
four-sport star athlete at Chalmette High and at Tulane in football before
his swimming-accident death in mid-1970's will recognize the late and
award-winning high school coach at three schools including St. Bernard High
and Chalmette High schools - Ronnie Alonzo, Sr.

The spiritual-guided and intense coach in both basketball and track and
field, Alonzo, Sr., guided 10 teams to district championships in basketball
as his large and closely-knit family will accept the Caillouette award in
"Big" Ronnie's name.
