Chalmette -- St. Bernard detectives say they have shut down two "chop shops"
for stolen vehicles, recovered four stolen autos and arrested three
suspects.

One of the shops was located in the 1900 block of Tusa Drive in Meraux,
while the second was in the 3900 block of Tournefort Street in Chalmette.
They were shut down Monday and Thursday, respectively.

"Anthony Moley, 47, of Violet was one of the men arrested in the operation,
booked Sunday night, Feb. 19 with possession of a stolen GMC Yukon which he
had on a wrecker," reads a news release from the St. Bernard Sheriff's
Office. "Moley was out on bond at the time from an arrest Feb. 2 for
illegally operating a scrap yard in Chalmette where he allegedly bought
stolen property and re-sold it to a larger scrap business in New Orleans."

Moley was re-arrested twice on additional stolen property charges and bonded
out each time, prior to his Sunday night booking.

According to the news release, "Moley... said he had received the vehicle as
rent owed by Bernell Williams Jr., of St. Bernard Parish, who has a shop on
Tusa Drive.

"When sheriff's detectives went there with a search warrant on Feb. 21,
Williams wasn't present but two vehicles reported stolen were recovered,"
the statement continues. "A warrant has been issued by a judge for
Williams' arrest on charges of possession of stolen vehicles." Williams
later surrendered to authorities.

The statement says the investigation of the Tusa Drive chop shop led
detectives to the Tournefort Street location, where they arrested Robert
Reynolds of Slidell for posession of stolen property. "A Chevrolet Suburban
reported stolen in New Orleans was found there," the news release says.

State police assisted deputies in the investigation.
