Chalmette -- A beer delivery man faces a felony theft after he allegedly
shorted customers on his delivery route and sold some of his product to a
store outside his route.
A supervisor at the New Orleans distributing company Crescent Crown says he
witnessed 26-year-old Aureliana Sevilla make an unscheduled stop at
Chalmette Discount at 1800 E. Judge Perez Drive on Feb. 24.
"[The supervisor] saw Sevilla unload several hundred dollars worth of beer
and other products into the store," reads a news release from the St.
Bernard Sheriff's Office. "The supervisor confronted the delivery man and
told investigating sheriff's deputies that Sevilla admitted to him he had
been shorting customers on his regular route and selling the leftover
product for cash at Chalmette Discount."
Investigators say Sevilla sold more than $600 in product to Chalmette
Discount for $300 in cash, which he turned over to his supervisor before he
was arrested by deputies.
"When sheriff's deputies further investigated at Chalmette Discount, an
employee, Raed Thabata, 35, [of] Meraux, admitted Seville on several
occasions including that day had come into the store offering to sell
products for cash and Thabta had done so," continues the news release.
"Thabat was arrested for possession of stolen property but later released
from jail on bond of $11,000."
Sevilla has also been released from jail, on a bond of $7,500.
