I was at the meeting & from my understanding, the property is not big enough
for a house. And if the owner, Sterling Cardone, doesn't get the
microbrewery approval, he will build a 8 - 10 apartment complex. I would
prefer the brewery to another apt. complex.

IMO, the issue is not the micro brewery. It is changing SINGLE FAMILY
RESIDENTIAL ZONING TO Manufacturing Commercial BEYOND THE RESTRICTION of 250
feet from the highway. "SHALL NOT exceed 250 feet". That restriction has
been in place since 1965, BEFORE the Chalona Apts were constructed. Why
can't the owner build a house on the residential portion?

Where will this stop? On any number of properties along St. Bernard Hwy the
council could, after breaking its own 250 foot ordinance, rezone other
parcels and have commercial incursion past 600 feet into neighborhoods
because "we have to let the owner use his land". Next thing you know, the
oil refinery will want more and more commercial use of the residential
properties it owns.

We returned, rebuilt and would like our R1 zoning to remain. Changing it is
not good. If the zoning change is granted past the 250 feet, I hope the
residents take the council to state court. Maybe then they will uphold their
oath to uphold our existing laws.
