USDA/AP
Chalmette, La. - St. Bernard Parish leaders say they plan to use several
different methods to reduce the mosquito population this season.

One way will include low level flights to spray mosquitoes more efficiently.
The parish says the Federal Aviation Administration rules allow aircraft to
fly over residential neighborhoods.

Residents can do their part to help prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
Everyone is asked to eliminate anything capable of holding water, such as
tires, flower pots and bird baths.

When outside you're reminded to protect yourself with long sleeve shirts,
long pants and use repellents.

Mosquitoes are especially active in the early morning and late evening
hours.

Dr. Michael Carroll with the City of New Orleans' mosquito, termite and
rodent control office says this is one of the earliest starts to mosquito
biting and termite swarms in ten years.
