Layoffs in St. Bernard Parish

Chalmette, La. - The pink slips went out on Friday to 44 parish employees in
St. Bernard Parish.  A spokeswoman for parish president David Peralta
confirms that the workers received notice on Friday, May 18th,  that their
jobs were being eliminated effective immediately.

Executive Assistant Lenor Duplessis says the layoffs affect all departments,
but she declined to give specific numbers for each department.  Parish
officials may release more information on Tuesday detailing the layoffs and
the budget issues facing St. Bernard Parish.
