St. Bernard Parish Government will join forces with The Green Project, the
Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council and Keep Louisiana Beautiful to
hold its first "Household Waste Recycling" event this weekend. Set for
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Bernard Parish Seafood & Farmers'
Market, 409 Aycock St. in Old Arabi, the event is the first of its kind in
St. Bernard.

"This will be the first of what will be many 'green' endeavors by my
administration," said St. Bernard Parish President David Peralta. "Certain
items in our household have the potential to contaminate our environment if
they are simply thrown in the trash. Events such as this will ensure that
household products that contain contaminating elements will be responsibly
disposed."

Items to be accepted will include televisions, stereos, computers, copiers,
cell phones and fax machines. Latex paint considered in "good recyclable
condition" if it has not solidified, also will be accepted along with
oil-based paint in half gallon or greater quantities. No industrial or
specialty purpose paints will be accepted.

There is no charge for droppinsg off the aforementioned items at the
recycling event.

For more information about the household waste recycling event, call Michael
Bayham in the parish grants office at 504.278.1033.
