Construction Closes the tour loop road at Chalmette Battlefield.

At Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery, the tour loop road is closed
to replace drainage culverts. The old metal culverts had deteriorated and
the road above them was cracked. New culverts will be installed and the road
above them replaced. The new culverts will promote better drainage at the
battlefield. The road is expected to re-open by mid-July. The visitor
center, Battlefield Road, the Malus-Beauregard House and the national
cemetery will not be affected by the construction closure.  

Chalmette Battlefield and adjoining Chalmette National Cemetery are located
at 8606 W. St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette. The battlefield is the site of
1815's Battle of New Orleans; the national cemetery was established during
the Civil War. The battlefield, national cemetery, and visitor center are
open daily 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission to the site and to most programs
is free.
