Deputies have arrested two teens in connection with 13 vehicle burglaries in
Old Arabi, according to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.

Most of the vehicles were unlocked and burglarized during the early morning
Saturday between St. Claude Ave. and the Mississippi River.

Deputies responding to a witness' phone call discovered Michael Staes, 17,
behind a garbage can in the area. Authorities recovered a phone, bracelet
and silver coins.

Staes and a 15-year-old Chalmette boy whose name was not released, were each
booked with 13 counts of vehicle burglary. Staes was being held at St.
Bernard Parish Prison on $69,000 bond. The Chalmette boy was being held in
the parish Juvenile Detention Center.

Sheriff James Pohlmann reminded residents in a news release to lock their
vehicles at night, even when parked in driveways. He also suggested gun
owners take weapons inside their homes at night and lock them up.
