CHALMETTE, La. - Deputies have arrested a 17-year-old suspect hours after a
man was killed and another man was injured in Chalmette Tuesday.

Deputies did not name the suspect, but did say that he will be facing a
first-degree murder charge.

The arrest stems from an incident in the 8500 block of Regiment Drive, where
an unidentified man was killed and another man suffered "apparent blunt
force trauma to the head," officials said.

The cause of the victim's death won't be released until an autopsy is
conducted. No motive has been released.

Steve Cannizaro, a spokesman for the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office,
said the suspect was found hiding under a shed a block behind where the
murder victim was found.

"We don't get much violent crime in St. Bernard Parish,'' Sheriff James
Pohlmann said. "When something does happen we are proud of our record in
generally finding the culprit in a fairly short period of time, such as in
this case.''

Cannizaro said the murder victim and the injured man are both undocumented
illegal immigrants staying in Chalmette.
The homicide is St. Bernard Parish's first of the year.
