Mississippi River ferry loses control, smacks into Chalmette dock Friday
morning, authorities say

The Mississippi River ferry struck its Chalmette dock Friday morning,
apparently after losing power, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Three people on the boat said they were shaken up in the incident, the
Sheriff's Office said.

A sheriff's spokesman said deputies were called to the scene at the end of
Paris Road, but that Crescent City Connection police are handling the
investigation.

Contacted Friday morning, Crescent City Connection police would only say
that the ferry is currently not in operation. Efforts to contact the state
Department of Transportation and Development were unsuccessful Friday
mornnig. 

The ferry runs between Chalmette and Algiers.
