Are you puzzled? Need to think outside of the box? Then you won't want to
miss the St. Bernard Parish Library's November Saturday Morning Family Fun
Program. On November 10th at 10:30 a.m. local author and storyteller Dianne
de Las Casas will present her book Tangram Tales: Story Theater using the
Ancient Chinese Puzzle. Library patrons of all ages are invited to attend
this free hour-long program.

Though the exact history of the Tangram is unknown, it is thought to have
originated in China. The Tangram is made up of seven geometric shapes that
when in resting position form a perfect square. When being used to 'puzzle'
all seven pieces must be used and cannot be overlapped. The shapes can be
used to create the shapes of people, animals and other objects.
Participants will have the opportunity to make their own Tangram puzzles and
will learn from Ms. Dianne how to use them during storytelling. All
materials will be provided, however parents may need to assist younger
participants.

Ms. Dianne has been a frequent visitor to St. Bernard Parish Library. She
has shared fantastic stories, taken us on literary trips to far-off lands,
taught us to dance the hula, and instructed us on how to draw and tell
stories and now she will teach us this ancient form of storytelling using
geometric shapes. Dianne has authored numerous books ranging from picture
books to educational literature. She has made countless appearances as both
a performer and a workshop leader throughout the world and St. Bernard
Parish Library is proud to have her visit with its library patrons once
again.

Ms. Dianne's visit has been made possible by the financial support of the
Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department
of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State
Arts Council as administered by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural
Affairs.
