Parish Begins Installing Anti-Litter Signs

Initiative Funded by a Grant from "Keep Louisiana Beautiful"

St. Bernard Parish Government began installing signs this week asking
residents and visitors to "Don't Be A Litterbug" and to "Don't Trash Our
Parish".

The signs will be located at public parks, alongside high traffic
thoroughfares and at area businesses interested in participating in the
parish's anti-litter initiative. The signs were financed by a grant award
the parish government received from Keep Louisiana Beautiful.

"We want to encourage people to keep our community clean by not throwing
garbage on the ground," said Parish President David Peralta. "These signs
will remind people that when they litter, they are literally trashing our
parish."

Saint Bernard Parish Parks & Parkways Chairman Howard Luna designed the
"litterbug" sign and praised the effort to motivate people to refrain from
contributing to the parish's litter problem.

The installation of anti-litter signs are part of a multi-faceted "green
initiative" coordinated by the parish's Grants Department that also included
a Household E-Waste Recycling event that was held this past June and the
acquisition of new trash receptacles.

Businesses that would like display an anti-litter sign should contact
Michael Bayham in the Grants Department at (504) 278-1033. There is no
charge for the signs though participating businesses are expected to install
the signs upon receiving them.
