CHALMETTE, La. —

After extensive monitoring on Friday evening and Saturday morning, the
Department of Environmental Quality did not find any elevated levels of
sulfur dioxide at the Rain CII plant in Chalmette, La.

Previously the DEQ investigated the release of sulfur dioxide at the
facility shortly after 6 p.m. Friday.

The DEQ indicated what happened Friday was an isolated incident, but
planned to continue to monitor the situation as needed.

Officials with the DEQ said anyone wanting to file a complaint about the
chemical release should call 888-763-5424. Authorities caution anyone in
the area who feels sick to see a doctor immediately.
