The first, annual Battle of New Orleans Historical Symposium

Enthusiasts of the Battle of New Orleans will enjoy an academic component to
this year's celebrations with the first, annual Battle of New Orleans
Historical Symposium, taking place at Nunez Community College on Sunday and
Monday, January 13 and 14, 2013.

The series of lectures and discussions surrounding the celebrated battle is
made possible through grant funding from the Greater New Orleans
Foundation's Exxon Mobil Fund and includes several, special presentations by
noted historians including Martin K.A. Morgan, Timothy Pickles, and Dr.
Samanth Cavell.

Following the opening reception on Sunday, January 13, 2013, Ron Chapman,
professor of History at Nunez, will open the Symposium in the Nunez PAC
building with a special presentation entitled, "The Battle of New Orleans:
The Importance of the West Bank."


On Monday, January 14, 2013, St. Bernard Parish Historian, William Hyland,
will discuss the celebrated Battle of New Orleans from the Creole
perspective in "Reflections on the Campaign of Andrew Jackson, 1814-1815, by
B. Marigny."

The Symposium is free and open to the public. A detailed itinerary is
