St. Bernard Parish Government announces Availability of Low Income Energy
Assistance (LIHEAP)

Residents can begin calling on Friday, January 25, 2013

Please Read Carefully



St. Bernard Parish Government Department of Housing and Redevelopment is
announcing the availability of funds dedicated to assist St. Bernard Parish
residents who are eligible low income households with their energy payments.
Applicants will be seen by appointment ONLY. Appointments will be set on a
first come first serve basis. Walk-ins will NOT be seen. There are
reasonable accommodations for those with disabilities, call our office to
request reasonable accommodations. Applicants may begin calling for
appointments on Friday, January 25, 2013. NO appointments will be made
before Friday, January 25th. Appointments will be set for Monday - Friday,
8:30 am - 3:00 pm.



The first phase of appointments will be set for January 28th - February
15th, and February 25th - March 1st. On February 25, 2013, available
funding will be reassessed and a second phase of appointments will be made
available. If a third phase is needed, a second Public Announcement will be
made.



An eligible household is one whose total monthly income is below the levels
listed below, and who have not received a previous benefit within the past
six months. Applicants with a DISCNONNECT notice and who have not received
a benefit for a disconnect notice in the past 12 months may also apply.



Applicants may schedule an appointment by calling 504-278-4468. NO one will
be seen without an appointment.



Applicants must fill out an application, and provide, at a minimum, the
following documentation:



1. Driver's License of State ID of applicant and head of household

2. Social Security cards for all members of the household

3. Proof of income for all members of the household including anyone in
the household over 18*

4. Copy of the energy bill (assistance is provided for Entergy and Atmos
ONLY, no water bills)

5. Secondary proof of residency if the address on the ID does not match
the service address

6. Current Award Letter for food stamps (if applicable)

7. Current Utility Allowance if the applicant is on the HCV Program

*Anyone in the household over the age of 18 who is unemployed will be
required to fill out and sign a "Zero Income" form, and it must be completed
in order for the application to be processed.



Applicants without complete documentation will not be processed, and will
have to call for a second appointment.



If it is determined that additional documentation is required, the applicant
will have 5 working days to return the proper documentation, before the
application is denied for lack of documentation. All information is subject
to verification. Intentional misrepresentation of information may result in
criminal prosecution.
