FOX 8 received this news release from Louisiana State Police Thursday
afternoon

Last night, at approximately 8:45 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B
investigated a fatal crash in St. Bernard Parish on LA 47 at St. Jean
Baptiste Street. The crash claimed the life of Walter Sing (W/M, age 74) of
Metairie, LA.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Tundra driven by Korey
Alphonso (W/M, age 20) of Violet, LA, was traveling south on LA 47 at St.
Jean Baptiste Street in the right lane. Sing was crossing LA 47 and was
struck by the Toyota. Sing was transported to the Interim LSU Public
Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center where he later died. Alphonso was not
injured.

Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors of the crash and
toxicology results are pending an autopsy on Sing. The crash remains under
investigation.

Troopers urge both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant while on
area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Distraction,
whether behind the wheel or as a pedestrian, decreases awareness and
reaction time possibly leading to life changing consequences. Louisiana
State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk
along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible.
Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored
clothing, and stay out of the travel lanes at all times.
