Only in government is it expected that salaried employees would receive
extra pay for "over time" hours.

Private businesses have the same requirements of workers having to stay
during emergencies, but their salaried employees do not receive over time.

This is why taxes are constantly going up and government is always broke.

These employees know that they will required to put in long hours during
emergencies. If it is not something they can handle without extra
compensation, then they should not take the job.

much to do about nothing

these workers are required to stay 24/7 and must be compensated; IMO, they
aren't exactly cashing in. Their families are evacuated and they are
working under a declaration of emergency
