Honestly, in light of some of the other things that have gone on in recent
years I don't see this as a big deal. I'd bet most non-government employees
were taking care of their families and their property after Isaac. If these
people weren't allowed to do that and were required to be on call 24-7 the
amounts discussed in this article (other than maybe Plaquemines) were
generous but not what I would call excessive.

I see this as part of a trend where people demand all sorts of government
services but aren't willing to pay the cost. You get what you pay for.
