Ahoy, me Hearties! Weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen! Set your sights upon
the St. Bernard Parish Library for the first story program of the 2013
summer reading session. 'Buried Treasures' is the theme for the June 4th
and 5th story program set for Tuesday at 1p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and on
Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Treasures such as Edward and the Pirates by David
McPhail and Little 'Read' Hen by local author Dianne de Las Casas will be
shared. A pirate captain, a scalawag crew and others will be needed to act
out Kim Kennedy's Pirate Pete tale. Reading pirates of all ages will make
their own treasure map as part of the one-hour program. Want-to-be pirates
and their parents are invited to visit www.piratename.net/generate.php to
get their very own pirate name in preparation for the program.
Shiver me timbers and Yo Ho Ho because there's more fun to be had! Harvey
Rabbit and Friends will be here to kick off Friday's with the Arts at the
library. Show time is 2:30 p.m. on June 7th and everything will be
shipshape when Harvey, Cecil the Orangutan, T-Boy the Alligator along with
Mr. Tim and Ms. Laura present their zany hour-long program. Laughter,
puppetry, ventriloquism, magic and audience participation will be the prized
booty of the afternoon for all those who attend. Harvey Rabbit DVD's and
picture postcards will be available for purchase following this free
performance. Funding for Harvey's visit is being provided by a grant from
the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development,
Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the
Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the St. Tammany Commission
on Cultural Affairs.
Readers of all ages are encouraged to register for their summer reading
activity sheets. Each registrant will receive an official summer reading
bookmark while supplies last. For more information, please stop by the
library at 2600 Palmisano Blvd. in Chalmette or call the library at
