A Violet woman on Monday allegedly was foiled amid a binge shoplifting
excursion in a Chalmette shopping center. A St. Bernard Parish sheriff's
deputy caught her during her fourth theft of the day, according to the
Sheriff's Office.

Amanda Chanson, 33, of the 1900 block of Licciardi Lane, was booked with
theft of goods from four stores and is being held in St. Bernard Parish
Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond.

At about 2 p.m. Monday, Deputy Gary Noriea was sent to the shopping center
at 8400 W. Judge Judge Dr. to investigate and found Chanson in a dollar
store, sitting on the floor, placing an opened pack of cigarette lighters
into her purse, according to Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann.

Chanson also had numerous other stolen items in her purse from three other
stores, according to the Sheriff's Office. Workers from the other stores
said that they also had seen Chanson concealing items. One of the store
owners had called the Sheriff's Office earlier that day.

The stolen items mainly consisted of jewelry and clothing, Pohlmann said.

When asked about receipts, Chanson said she had none and admitted she stole
the items, Pohlmann said.
