St. Bernard Parish Library celebrates summer reading fever with "Summer
Sniffles" week July 1-5.

Featuring stories such as "Sneezy Louise" by Irene Breznak, "Stop That Nose"
by Martha Peaslee Levine and poems such as Shel Siverstein's "Catching,"
story programs will be offered at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 2) and
at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (July 3).

The library will be closed Thursday in honor of Independence Day.

On Friday (July 5), award-winning singer, songwriter, musician and author
Johnette Downing returns to St. Bernard for her annual summer reading visit
to present "Reading Rocks" to music lovers of all ages as part of the
Fridays With the Arts series.

Funding for this event is provided by a grant from the Louisiana Division of
the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation
and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as
administered by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs.

The deadline for submitting summer reading program activity sheets is
Thursday, July 11. Participants will receive their reading rewards and have
their names entered into the grand finale prize drawing. Pre-readers through
12th-graders must be present at the prize drawing to claim their prizes.
Adult readers have until Saturday, Aug. 3 to turn in their activity sheets
to be eligible for the Aug. 5 prize drawing. Adult winners will be notified
by phone.

The library is located at 2600 Palmisano Blvd. in Chalmette. For more
