Sheriff: Violet man flushes syringe after another man overdoses
UPDATED 4:37 PM CDT Jul 20, 2013

The Sheriff's Office says Lance Espadron, 35, told them he found 57-year-old
Rodney Sanchez down the block from his residence possibly overdosing on
drugs Wednesday.

Espadron told police he brought Sanchez back to his home on Guerra Drive and
called the Sheriff's Office, the Sheriff's Office says.

Before deputies arrived, they say Espadron admitted to flushing Sanchez's
syringe down the toilet because he didn't want to be caught with it.

Espadron also said he used the syringe to give Sanchez a shot of salt water
in an attempt to save his life prior to flushing it.

Emergency medical technicians worked on saving Sanchez upon their arrival,
but he was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m. Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office says it suspects that Espadron and Sanchez knew each
other and had done drugs together that day rather than Espadron finding
Sanchez on the street.

The investigation is ongoing, and Espadron was arrested on a change of
obstruction of justice for flushing the syringe and possibly negligent
homicide for not calling 911 fast enough depending on the outcome of
toxicology tests.
