A New Orleans man on Saturday was arrested for allegedly stealing 300
gallons of used cooking oil from a Chalmette restaurant. He then allegedly
fled, driving wildly past vehicles down Louisiana 46 on Saturday before he
was apprehended, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.

Frank Nelson, 57, of the 7500 block of Tricia Court, was booked with theft
of cooking oil. The Sheriff's Office stated that the oil was worth more than
$500.

Nelson also was booked with reckless operation of a vehicle following the
9:30 a.m. Saturday incident. He was being held in St. Bernard Prison on
Monday evening in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

The cooking oil was kept behind the restaurant in a large drum, according to
the Sheriff's Office. Nelson allegedly pulled up his large pick-up truck and
hauled it away.

The restaurant's owners saw a truck when they arrived that morning and,
after the truck pulled away, they noticed the drum was missing.

The owners followed the truck and called the Sheriff's Office, Pohlmann
said. After sheriff's officers caught up with him, Nelson allegedly
apologized.
