The first commenter was correct....at 28 you are long from being a child,
and most likely have a child of your own.

People do not understand we cannot click our feelings off for our grown
adult children even if they are an addict.  Addiction is a mental disease
and drugs , alchohol , etc are symtoms of the mental disorder.
That is my take on it and unless you have a child, grown child not a nephew
or neice or brother your child you will not know what it is like.

No, you have a 28 year old (not a child) who is an addict.  Don't go into
denial by calling him a "child".  He is a grown man who has been thru drug
rehab once and is an addict.
