St. Bernard Parish Kicks Off Old Arabi Planning and Streetscape Improvements
Project

With Public Meeting and Workshop

On September 16, 2013 St. Bernard Parish will officially kick off its Old
Arabi Planning and Streetscape Improvements Project with a public meeting
and workshop session to be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Arabi Elementary School
Cafeteria located at 7200 Alexander Avenue. All residents and business
owners are invited to attend the work shop to provide input to
representatives of Waggonner and Ball Architects, the project consultants.

The project, which is being funded by a Community Development Block Grant,
will set goals and objectives for the ongoing revitalization of Old Arabi
both in terms of residential and commercial development. The work is
considered a small area plan that is being developed in tandem with the St.
Bernard Comprehensive Master Land Use and Zoning Plan. It will culminate in
a streetscape beautification project valued at $2.5 million.

The timing of the initiation of the project puts it in alignment with the
Comprehensive Plan which gave participants an opportunity to become familiar
with the planning process and the value of their input to date. St. Bernard
Parish Government strongly encourages the residents and business owners in
Old Arabi to attend the meeting on September 16th in order for the
consultants to gain a strong sense of the desires for the neighborhood by
the public going forward. The process is dependent on the views, ideas and
values of the people who live and work in the area.
