A Chalmette man who was fired from a Belle Chasse business has been arrested
in connection with allegedly stealing power tools from that company. Roy H.
Maness, 38, of the 8200 block of E. Livingston, is suspected in the August
burglary in the 9200 block of Belle Chasse Highway, Plaquemines Parish
Sheriff Lonnie Greco said Thursday.

Authorities learned Maness had been arrested in Pascagoula, Miss., on
unrelated charges of receiving stolen property and possession of stolen
property. He is in custody of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Greco
said.

In May, Maness was terminated from the Belle Chasse business. Its owner
reported the burglary Aug. 19 and was tipped off authorities that Maness may
have been involved in the theft.

Using the serial numbers, Plaquemines investigators traced the saw and drill
to a pawn shop in Marrero, where they had been sold Aug. 12. When
authorities interviewed Maness in Mississippi on Aug. 29, he allegedly
confessed to the burglary, saying he did so to support a narcotics
addiction, Greco said.

Upon release from Mississippi, Maness will be booked with simple burglary in
Plaquemines, Greco said.
