Jindal Weekly Update

Governor Jindal had another successful week continuing his 64 parish tour of
Louisiana. The Governor attended multiple economic development events
announcing new jobs and investment coming to the state. The week also
brought news that Governor Jindal's healthcare reforms that transformed the
state's government-run hospital system into public-private partnerships are
expanding access and improving care. The healthcare system changes are being
referred to as a "conservative alternative to Obamacare."

Here Is A Quick Recap Of The News About The Governor's Week:

Care Reforms Which Are Converting Government Run Hospitals To Public-Private
Partnerships And Providing A Higher Quality Of Care While Saving The State
Over $125 Million Per Year. Shortened emergency room waits and an eliminated
prescription backlog in Baton Rouge. A re-established gynecology clinic in
Lake Charles. The reopening of operating rooms in New Orleans and an
orthopedic clinic in Lafayette that were previously shuttered by budget
cuts. . . . The governor and top cabinet leaders say the first outsourcing
deals, rolled out in April and June, have improved services for the poor and
uninsured and boosted medical training for students, as private health
providers have taken over the services previously run by LSU. . . . Jindal
and Kliebert say the privatization deals are giving the uninsured better
access to specialty services, lessened wait times and expanded care
offerings, replacing weeks-long waits for prescriptions to be filled and
months-long delays for needed surgeries.

Health Reforms Could Be Seen As Louisiana's Conservative Alternative To
Obamacare. High costs and low-quality care have defined the state of
Louisiana's system of charity hospitals, established during the Huey Long
era to serve the medical needs of low-income citizens. Now, as the
Associated Press's Melinda Deslatte reports, Republican governor Bobby
Jindal is making the case that his privatization reforms are a successful
conservative alternative for providing health care services to those in
need.

Will Break Ground On A New Louisiana Facility Which Will Create 22 Direct
Jobs And 145 Indirect Jobs In The Area. The chemical company BASF will break
ground on a new $42.6 million polyurethane blending facility in Geismar next
June. The project was originally slated for a Houston site -- so much so
that it was initially called "yellow rose" after a Texas folk legend - but
local officials said they were able to lure it away to Louisiana. "I'm glad
we plucked that yellow rose from Texas and brought it to Louisiana," said
Gov. Bobby Jindal at the company's announcement today. . . . Opening in
2015, this new facility create 22 new jobs directly, with an average salary
of $72,300 plus benefits. Jindal also said he expects the project to produce
145 indirect jobs in the area.

Louisiana is ranked sixth in the country when it comes to the best states to
do business, according to Area Development magazine. "In the past five
years, Louisiana has secured economic development projects that are creating
more than 63,000 new direct and indirect jobs and more than $28 billion in
new capital investment, along with hundreds of millions of dollars in new
sales for Louisiana's small businesses," the magazine says. "This resurgence
is largely due to the innovative economic policies put forth by Governor
Bobby Jindal and the state legislature." The magazine credits actions items
that included removing unconventional business taxes to reining in
government spending, reforming governmental ethics laws, revamping work
force development programs, and implementing landmark education reforms for
Louisiana students.

Critical Of The Obama Administration For Trying To Squash School Choice In
Louisiana. The administration's latest strike against school choice is a
lawsuit against a program in Louisiana, created by Republican Governor Bobby
Jindal. The Justice Department is using a 1975 desegregation order to argue
that Louisiana should get approval from a federal court before giving
scholarships to students in some school districts. Otherwise, the department
claims, the scholarships could make Louisiana schools less racially
integrated. . . . The Justice Department cites two public schools to
illustrate its concerns. Five white students used scholarships to leave one,
"reinforcing the racial identity of the school as a black school." In
another, the exit of six black students made a "white school" whiter. This
is racial bean-counting at its worst. . . . If the Obama administration
isn't willing to embrace school choice itself, it should at least quit
trying to squash it in the states and cities that are.

celebrated its 100th birthday today, Sept. 10, and Gov. Bobby Jindal was on
hand for the festivities at the Mowad Civic Center. "Cities like Oakdale,
with its great people, culture and work ethic, are the backbone of
Louisiana. Birthdays are always special, but celebrating 100 successful
years of a city and its community is remarkable," Jindal said. "For decades
this city has helped support Louisiana's economy and has been home to many
good jobs for our people, and every member of this community is blessed to
live here in Oakdale. Across Louisiana, we are all blessed to live in great
communities with rich, family-centric cultures and great heritage, just like
the folks here in Oakdale," he said.

Winnfield $1.5 million for water system infrastructure improvements. The

Water State Revolving Fund, according to Gov. Bobby Jindal, who visited
Winnfield on Wednesday to announce the loan. "This loan will fund key water
system improvements that will strengthen Winnfield's infrastructure and
increase the quality of life for our people in this area," Jindal said.
Improvements to water systems not only help communities, but they make those
communities "more attractive to companies that want to expand and invest in
our state."

continued growth is bringing more good jobs to the people of Northwest
Louisiana."
