St. Bernard man fatally shot on Violet sidewalk identified as 19-year-old

A 19-year-old man was shot to death on a Violet sidewalk Tuesday night and
sheriff's detectives are following up on leads, St. Bernard Sheriff Jimmy
Pohlmann said. Truy Jones, 19, was shot several times in the torso just
before 8 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff said.

The Sheriff's Office had not made any arrests as of early Wednesday morning.
Reacting to calls about the shooting, sheriff's deputies found Jones dead on
a sidewalk in the 3100 block of Daniel Drive, in front of a duplex near the
corner of East Genie Street.

Jones didn't reside on the street where he was killed and had recently
stayed at several residences in Chalmette and Meraux, and he also had an
address in Kenner, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Jones had a criminal history, including recently being out on bond for an
arrest a year ago for looting in St. Bernard during Hurricane Isaac.

Sheriff's detectives are working leads and asking the public to call the
Sheriff's Office at 504.271.2501 with any information. The Sheriff's Office
stated that callers could be eligible for a reward if their information
leads to an arrest.

It is the third murder in St. Bernard this year, according to the Sheriff's
Office.
