The Chalmette-Lower Algiers ferry will remain out of service for about two
more weeks until repairs are made to its vehicle ramp mechanism, the
Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said Monday. Double
Aught Construction of Belle Chasse is doing the work at an estimated cost of
$100,000, the department said.

The ferry broke loose from its Chalmette mooring on Oct. 14. In the process,
it incurred damage to the screw jacks that adjust and secure the vehicle
ramp.
